I am a documentary photographer originally from Germany and currently based in São Paulo, Brazil. My work centers on long-term projects in Latin America, especially in Brazil and Cuba, where I focus on everyday life, cultural and religious rituals, and the social spaces that shape communities. In addition to being a photographer, I also work with translation.
That experience of moving between languages and cultures deeply influences how I approach photography, essentially as a form of listening and understanding beyond words. Living between different worlds has taught me to pay attention to subtle details and to seek out the human connections that transcend language.
Over the past years, I have dedicated myself to visual storytelling in places that have become like second homes to me. I often spend months or even years on a project, forging relationships with the people I photograph. I strive to capture intimate moments and the atmosphere of daily life. I use portraiture and urban landscape photography to highlight both the individuals and their environments.
My goal is to create photographs that are honest, respectful, and engaging. I believe in working ethically and collaboratively: I make a point to communicate with my subjects, to hear their stories, and to ensure they are comfortable with how I portray them. Photography, for me, is a way of building bridges. I hope that when people see my images, they feel a sense of proximity to the lives of others, a connection that might inspire empathy or a new perspective. Ultimately, I am passionate about demonstrating how much we all share, no matter where we come from.
